1. Book Club Of The Week: Success. Katie, along with a few ladies from our church small group, had been threatening to start a book club for a while. It finally happened. Saturday morning at 6:30am ladies showed up at our house with their daughters. Lucy hosted the daughters book club while Katie hosted the mothers book club. Katie sewed badges for the different roles of the club. There are five roles. I am the only non-club member to know all five roles and how they are given/earned.
2. Peer Pressure Of The Week: My Neighbor. When Katie asked what I was going to do with the boys during her three hour book club I said the first thing that came to my mind. Take them to get donuts. Sure, this wouldn't take three hours but it sounded like a really good start. Then, the day before book club, my neighbor, a retired Marine Corps Infantry Officer, texted me saying he was going to do a run and workout with his boys at 6:30 while his wife was at the book club and invited me and my boys to join them. I texted back and told him that me and my boys usually do our Saturday morning run and workout at 5:00am so that we have time to spend the rest of the day ministering to widows and orphans but were willing to do the later start time for the sake of fellowshipping with them. There was no way we were not going to join. They would've been doing their run on the driveway at the same time we were leaving for donuts. We would have to drive right past them and wave. My sons would see them then never see me the same way again. It was an easy decision because it was the right decision.
3. False Alarm Of The Week: I Benefited. On Sunday morning I woke to "whispers" right outside my bedroom door. Katie had gotten up before me, loaded all the kids in the car, and ran to the grocery store. I stepped into the kitchen and was greeted with the exclamation of "Happy Father's Day!" I was truly surprised. I had no idea it was Father's Day. There were balloons, cards, and get this, donuts. After everything I had gone through on the previous day the sight of the donuts brought me to tears. Later that day, after we were done with dinner, Katie came into the living and informed me and all the children that she was mistaken on when Father's Day was. It was the following Sunday. We all laughed about it then I let Katie know that I would like the exact same variety of donuts for the real Father's Day. It was nice to have a practice run.
4. Lake Days Of The Week: Photos Tell A Better Story. Last summer we used Lake Pend Oreille as our bathtub. This summer, we've been using our bathtub as a bathtub and the lake as a lake. We took some photos of today's trip.
